In Phil. 3:13, Apostle Paul uses the illustration of a runner who focuses on the goal ahead, which prevents distractions and stumbling. Whenever attentions or emotions are absorbed by the past, it hinders forward momentum and progress. Broken or wavering focus can cause sure defeat.
